In the heart of Maastricht, a special place has opened where culture, craftsmanship and sophisticated aesthetics come together. Gallery Persepolis welcomes visitors to a gallery of hand-knotted Persian rugs — each carpet a work of art, every detail a story.

Opening in Maastricht — Gallery Persepolis

Maastricht has one more destination: Gallery Persepolis has officially opened its doors on Sint Pieterstraat. A place where art and heritage come together in the form of hand-knotted Persian rugs — each piece a masterpiece in itself.

Step into a world of tradition, symbolism, and timeless beauty — and discover how craftsmanship is passed down through generations.

A Gallery of Living Heritage

When you walk into Gallery Persepolis, you are not entering an ordinary retail space. The gallery feels like a living museum where each carpet tells a story. No mass production, no imitation — only authentic carpets, hand-knotted from wool and silk by artisans from Iran, Afghanistan, India and the surrounding area.

  • Unique pieces: Each knot is hand-tied — a work of months or even years.
  • Historical patterns: Many designs refer to mythological stories, religious symbolism, or daily life.
  • Cultural depth: These rugs are art forms that carry the soul of a civilization.

Education & Experience

At Gallery Persepolis, it's not just about admiring, it's also about understanding. Our team enthusiastically shares the symbolism, techniques and stories behind each carpet. Whether you're a collector or considering a carpet for the first time, here's an insight into what makes this art form so special.

“We want to do more than sell,” says founder Ilya. “We want to take our visitors into the story, the culture, the rhythm of this craft.”

More than just a gallery

The opening is just the beginning. Gallery Persepolis plans activities throughout the year to keep inspiring visitors:

  • Workshops: Learn about knotting techniques, carpet care and origin.
  • Cultural evenings: Evenings of Persian poetry, music, and hospitality.
  • Interior advice: Discover how a carpet can enrich your living space with character and soul.

Our gallery will be a place of encounter, education and inspiration — dedicated to an ancient craft that is still alive and kicking.
